Ice Maiden
This fashion illustration was drawn from a live drawing session with Drawing Cabaret Couture.
Janet Mayer was modelling millinery titled 'Ice Maiden' designed by Edwina Ibbotson. The hat comprised of a lace structure around the head with trailing flowers falling down to the shoulders. An incredible amount of time, passion and skill to create such as beautiful piece of millinery. I wanted to do justice to the beauty of the soft colors and create a soft understated image to reflect the cool greys and blues and intrinsic grace and flow of the drape of the hand made flowers as they cascaded down the side of Janets head. I teased out my marks using soft colors and built up the marks in an impressionist way until the definition of the image started to appear. This takes time and requires a sensitive feel for the path of the drawing. Its also critical to know when you have made enough marks and the eye is filling in the gaps.
